Strategic Planning and Management for a Garment Industry

As a result of my interest in starting a garment industry as my business organisation is find out that strategic planning is the process of developing the company’s mission and defining specific methods of accomplishing it. It can be on a broader or narrow perspective depending on the scope of the goal. This Strategic planning will therefore help me in developing the mission and visions of my organization that I intend to accomplish in the near future. I also find out that management in any business is all about trying to solve business problems creatively.

It is all about directing the employees in an organization so that the goals are met. This is where the resources available in an organization are manipulated. These resources include the natural resources, technological resources, financial resources, and the human resources. There are various functions through which management operates, which I should be able to adhere to while operating my business. Research indicates that the functions of management are those of planning, organizing, leading and controlling and they all require skills and knowledge on how to carry out such management functions in the garment organization.

Planning is the process of developing the company’s mission and defining specific methods of accomplishing it. It can be on a broader or narrow perspective depending on the scope of the goal. Planning comes in a number of ways since all sectors in any other business require some form of planning in order to stick to what has been planned. First, there is financial planning which entails the budgeting allocations for all the programs being undertaken within the company. It also includes the setting and monitoring the financial spending of the Company in view of auditing any misappropriation of funds.

Provision of benefits, compensations and salaries are also taken care of at this stage. Another section of business organizations that need planning is the policy formulation section. This is critical in that as a profit making company, strategies must be placed correctly to counter marketing issues such as competition from companies which manufacture the same product. (Maundy, 2001) The other function of management that I should apply is that of organizing which involves arranging and allocating tasks in the workplace in order to attain the set organization’s objectives.

In essence, organization function is responsible for how tasks will be divided and achieved efficiently and effectively. Usually the supervisors of the organisation will be responsible for identifying tasks and subdividing work groups in to separate sections in an organization. Therefore as a manager of the garment industry I will therefore have the responsibility of ensuring that all the tasks to be done are clearly defined and divided to all responsible employees on time and such tasks are assigned to the most competent and qualified employees in the middle school. Rampton, 2003) The other function of management that will enhance the success of my industry is that of leading which involves directing human resource of an organization in the right path in order to achieve the set goals efficiently and effectively. Traditionally this function involves directing, educating and overseeing the employees within an organization.

Under this, being a manager, I will be put in a position of guiding and coaching other labor force to achieve the set goals of my organisation; for example in the organisation it will be of great importance to lead by example that is achieving the set goals and targets on time and guiding the rest of employees in the industry to carry out their tasks without much difficulty. The other function is that of controlling which entails ensuring that the real performance achieved is matched with the intended results and also ensuring that corrective measures are undertaken if there are deviations from the set goals. (Maundy, 2001)

We can therefore conclude that, management functions apply in every organization and my intended garment industry is not exceptional in order to attain desired goals. Any business organization has to have the management functions. Planning is very important and it precedes all the other functions. Organizing helps in allocating resources to people and departments. Leading enables the motivation of employees. Every organization needs to carry out controlling to ensure that plans are implemented. Managers need to carry out ethical decision making. When these functions are well carried out, it leads to success in organizations. (Rampton, 2003)
